HELLEN Buteme was named captain as the Uganda Rugby Union made changes to the national women’s team, six days to the start of the Sevens World Cup.

The new Lady Cranes captain, who replaces long serving Christine Kizito, will be assisted by Rachael Kakaire. The changes were made at a technical committee meeting at Kyadondo on Wednesday.

Coach David Mutaka explained that the changes were made to suit the team’s strategy.

“Christine has done a lot to bring us this far which we really appreciate. We needed to take that load of captain from her so that she concentrates on her game,” Mutaka remarked.

The team sponsored by Ice Mark and supported by 94.8 Vision Voice, was yet to receive sh28m pledged by Government.

Uganda is in pool D together with New Zealand, South Africa and Italy.
