THE multi-billion Nakumatt Oasis supermarket in Kampala will operate 24 hours when it opens this month.
“When Nakumatt opens, shop Ugandans will for the first time be able to shop at any time of the day or night,†Amina Hersi, the Khardar Investments managing director, the developers of the complex on Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala, said over the weekend.
She said the mega shopping mall would occupy three floors of the complex.
“We are going to create a whole new concept of shopping,†Hersi said.
She explained that the complex in its final stages of completion would also house other businesses including banks, food courts and coffee shops.
“It will have parking capacity for over 1,000 cars,†Hersi said.
She pointed out that access roads to the mall would be constructed from the Shimoni roundabout and Wampewo Avenue in Kololo.
“We are working on a legally-binding agreement, which we signed with Kampala City Council in March to build access roads to the mall,†Hersi said.
She added that the development on the land had preserved the interests of golfers and other stakeholders.
However, the firm was last week accused by Kitante Golf Club of encroaching on their land.
The complex, she said, would be launched by President Yoweri Museveni.
"It is going to be a massive supermarket providing all the varieties one would only dream of finding on this land. Whatever you want, you’ll be sure of finding it at Nakumatt,†she added.
