KCC FC v Bayelsa

KCC FC will need a top-drawer performance in attack and a commanding presence in midfield as they seek to pull off a result against Bunamwaya that could prove significant in their title pursuit.

While the league champions’ treasured two-man attack of Robert Ssentongo and Brian Umony will have to replicate their yester-form at Nakivubo Stadium, today’s fixture could just as well be ‘won or lost’ in midfield.

Uganda’s continental representatives will engage Bunamwaya extremely aware that the enemy for them will not entirely reign from the 11 cards their opponents will set out, but from their former midfield star in the shape of Owen Kasule.

Kasule has made the ordinary, including his midfield partner Robert Kimuli, look extremely decent. His flamboyant style has complemented Kimuli’s cultured approach.

The chemistry between the two is what KCC must thwart and hope that strikers Umony and Ssentongo perform to their powers to achieve a result that could haul them top or as joint leaders with SC Villa.

There are misgivings over the way KCC have suddenly looked vulnerable in the league, and their 2-2 controversial draw with Police recently literally intensified concerns over their abilities to contend with close title pursuers Villa and URA FC.

KCC FC will certainly play a cautious game, and occasionally apply consistent pressure on the visitors with speed and power up the middle through midfielders Ronald Kamoga, Patrick Senfuka and Jeremiah Ssebuyiira.

Kamoga is not such an industrious midfielder but does just enough to hand his teammates particularly Ssenfuka the space to run in behind defenders.

Not only is Senfuka’s use of the ball masterful, his tackling and movement are timely and can infuse the rest of the team with confidence. His vision for that odd pass to strikers Umony and Ssentongo are what KCC will need.

Umony returns to league action after being rested for the Police game. Umony will still have to be in irrepressible mood throughout this fixture, if Bunamwaya are to wither. He often changes the tide of games in an instant with that unpredictable goal.
