THE European Union (EU) has built and renovated buildings at Arua and Kuluva schools of comprehensive nursing, in West Nile.

The structures include storeyed lecture rooms, libraries, computer laboratories and refurbished students hostels all worth sh3b. The buildings were handed over to the schools on Thursday. Norman Ajiri, an official, said the facilities would provide a conducive learning environment.

He said the EU had provided 8.5m euros (about 17b) to train health personnel.
“The focus is on attaining a well-trained and motivated work-force that will meet the health needs of Uganda and improve the population’s health,” Ajiri said.

He disclosed that the two schools were part of the 15 health training institutions in the country that benefited from the grant.

Arua resident district commissioner Ibrahim Abiriga hailed the EU for the facilities and pledged continued cooperation between the union and Uganda.

The senior education officer, Patrick Sempala, said the institutions would receive a bus for the students outreach programmes.
