THE Orange Karnival after-party at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Saturday evening, was a real thrill for entertainment-seekers. The party followed the street carnival which took place during day.

From the Sarakasi dancers who ruled the stage for hours with acrobatics and sizzling dances, to the much- awaited Jamaican international dancehall star, Shaggy, there was no letting up on the fun.

Shaggy has been in Uganda countless times, so most revellers thought nothing much would change, but the energetic performances he gave alongside Rayvon, told a different story.

He performed most of his old songs and new ones, including What’s Love, Wild Tonight, Sweet Girl, Church Heathen, Would You Be, Keeping it Real, Repent, Chica Bonita, Mr. Boombastic, Angel, She’s Mine, Strength of a Woman, Summertime, Sexy Lady and Big Up. He topped them up with renditions of other artistes’ songs.

Shaggy, whose live sound tuning took about 20 minutes to set up, saluted reggae, hip-hop and R&B fans.

As if to prove a point to telecom rivals who put Good Lyfe’s Mowzey and Weasel on a retainer package, Orange made sure the duo sings first.

They performed crowd favourites like Nakudata, Lwaki Onumya, Zuena, Nyambura and Bread and Butter. Rapper GNL Zamba also held his own as did Navio, who sampled new crunk songs.

CBS FM presenters cum-comedians/actors, Kato Lubwama and Patricko Mujjuka were the emcees of the evening. They did a good job, cracking jokes and even imitating Luganda rappers.

Several revellers won airtime worth sh100,000, phones, bicycles, boda bodas and TVs. The luckiest and loudest, Francis Sserwadda from Masaka, won a plot of land.

M-Net’s lifestyle magazine, Studio 53, was on set at the show, attended by many Kampala notables.

On the downside of things, drinks and food were too expensive. The VIP stand was also far from the stage.

Neverthless, the Silk Events-managed show was well-organised from the security at the entrance, sound, stage lighting to giant screens.
