The Police in Mityana district on Friday exhumed the body of a 65-year-old woman, who was allegedly strangled by her son. Catherine Nabweteme had been buried at Jjimbo village in Wakiso district.

Residents said she was killed by her son over money she got from the sale of her land. The Police said the suspect, David Kasule, had confessed to the crime, but the body had been buried before a postmortem examination was carried out.

“The information reached the Police after burial. With allegations of murder, we have to carry out a postmortem examination and this is why we have exhumed the body,” said Nathan Matovu, the district deputy chief of criminal investigations.

Dr. Francis Kigongo, who carried out the postmortem examination, confirmed that the deceased had been strangled. “Her tongue was out. There are also indications that she was hit hard on the back of her head. However, the body was decomposing so we could not find out a lot,” Kigongo said.

The district Police commander, Ben Mubangizi, advised residents never to bury anyone suspected to have been murdered before informing the Police.
