UGANDA put up some resistance but it was not enough as South Africa drained all their dreams in the Africa junior badminton championships with a 3-2 defeat in Addis Ababa yesterday. Uganda later beat Botswana 3-2 to console themselves.

Norman Katende reports that Uganda needed a win to rekindle their chances of finishing among the top two in their group and advance to the semifinals.

Shamim Bangi’s win in the girls singles and that of Ian Senoga and Herbert Ebayo in the men’s doubles could not change the fortunes after the South Africans took the men’s singles, women doubles and mixed doubles to top group A.

Uganda had recovered from an early loss to Ghana on day one, to whitewash Kenya and improve on their chances.
