Osato Vocational Secondary School was closed recently after its director, Ouma Wandera, disappeared with the students’ fees worth over sh7m.

Education officials said over 180 students are stranded and have halted the re-opening of the School at Namataba village in Nagojje sub-county.

Reportedly, Wandera disappeared with the money, part of which was for the registration of 45 Senior Four and 10 Senior Six students. The students are supposed to sit for the Uganda National Examination Board’s examinations this year.

The students said they were not registered for the exams. Some parents had pleaded that the school be re-opened to allow the students continue with their studies.

However, following a meeting held at the school on Thursday, district education officer Godfrey Serwanja said the school would not be allowed to re-open until the director is found.

He said vacancies had been secured for Senior Four and Senior Six candidates in the neighbouring Namataba Secondary School. “We have to get the director before the school can open again,” Serwanja said.

The Buikwe district Police commander, Patrick Onyango, told the parents that Police was hunting for Wandera who is believed to be hiding in Wakiso district.
