ONE more student has died following the Tuesday accident in Kapchorwa, raising the death toll to three.

Ronald Baluku, the third victim, according to the Police in eastern Uganda, died on Monday night at Mbale Hospital. Baluku was in Senior Four.

He was among three students rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The bereaved family had by press time reportedly picked his body.

Deo Wasswa in S.6 and Vienni Rujaganya in S.4 died instantly when their bus overturned and plunged down a steep valley at Towen in Sipi subcounty in Kapchorwa.

The driver is said to have lost control as he went round a sharp corner on a
steep slope.

In all, 38 students sustained injuries and were taken to Mbale and Kapchorwa hospitals.

The tragedy cut short a trip by students of St. Joseph’s Nkoni in Masaka to Sipi Falls as part of a tour of physical features in the eastern region.

There were 77 passengers on the ill-fated bus. Among them were six teachers, 69 students and two Catholic priests from Masaka Diocese identified as Paul
Batwawula and Herman Kisekka.

It could not be readily established whether the tour had been planned earlier because schools officially closed the academic term last weekend.
