Hoima district leaders want the Ministry of Works and Transport to punish Omega Construction Company over shoddy work on the roads in Hoima municipality. The company was contracted by the ministry to tarmac streets in Hoima town in July last year but left in May this year before completing the work.

The Hoima town clerk Amir Nsamo told The New Vision on Wednesday that he had on several occasions written to the ministry seeking termination of the company’s contract. “I am very disappointed by the type of work Omega has done for us. We have written to the Ministry of Works and Transport requesting the termination of the contract but nothing has been done,” he said.

Nsamo said Omega Construction Company should refund over sh280m. “We want the ministry to task the company to refund the money it had already received so that work can be taken up by any other serious company,” he said.

Hoima mayor Francis Atugonza said unprofessional companies should not be offered contracts in future to avoid the loss of the tax payer’s money. “The Government is losing a lot of money in such dubious tenders and contracts and such money is never regained. We want the Government to stop giving contracts to such companies to avoid losing money,” he said.
