A six-hour gun battle between the Jie and Matheniko Karimojong warriors on Tuesday left three people dead and seven injured during a mass raid of cattle.

A six-hour gun battle between the Jie and Matheniko Karimojong warriors on Tuesday left three people dead and seven injured during a mass raid of cattle.

The battle, which started at 9:00am till 3:00pm at Nakonyen grazing cTHE beheaded body of Swalik Sajjabi being lifted from his room in Budhumbuli, Jinja district on Wednesday.

Ground in Katikekile sub-county in Moroto district, forced residents to flee.
The identities of the dead and the injured could not be established by press time.

The LC5 councillor, Simon Peter Lokoroi, said the Jie attacked Nakonyen as the warriors drove their animals to the grazing area from the kraals.
They engaged a joint warrior force of the Kenyan Pokot and Matheniko in a gun battle.

“The Jie overpowered the other side and took about 400 head of cattle,” Lokoroi said.

Moroto deputy resident district commissioner Bob Opio said the army would take days to track down the rustlers and recover the cattle.
