Time to respect our differences

EDITOR—It is amazing how Ugandans have failed to observe world events. Apart from the Americas where the indigenous people were almost entirely wiped out, no colonising and assimilating power has managed to suppress a people entirely.

Why should the Banyala, Bakooki, Baruuli and Bagangaizi give up their land, language, culture and, indeed, identity for the Ganda options? The great USSR, Serbia and Yugoslavia disbanded. You cannot oppress or obliterate a people simply because you want to.

Human beings belong to families, clans, tribes, nations and continents. You cannot eliminate any tier. Land and power is, therefore, held in the same way.
Let us respect our differences.

I believe God allowed them so that we can be better organised. This utopia of free for all that many espouse is a perfect recipe for disaster. Time will not fail to correct injustices. Museveni is only right in trying to correct things.
