Army to start maritime operations

A UPDF maritime military force will soon take charge of security on the Ugandan waters bodies and islands, the chief of defence forces, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, has said.

A UPDF maritime military force will soon take charge of security on the Ugandan waters bodies and islands, the chief of defence forces, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, has said.

Nyakairima was on Friday speaking in Rukungiri district during celebrations to mark 28 years of the UPDF . President Yoweri Museveni was the chief guest.

Nyakairima said the army had a number of training schools with world-class facilities.

They include the Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka, the Junior Staff College Jinja and the Uganda Military Academy Kabamba.
Others are the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi, the School of Air Defence and Artillery Nakasongola and the College of Engineering Magamaga
Nyakairima said the Oliver Tambo School of Leadership in Kaweweta, is ready for commissioning.

“It is this capability that has seen us participate in peace keeping operations,” Nyakairima said.
