THREE Pakistanis have been arrested over the murder of two Indians in Kampala last week.

The three were arrested as they tried to cross into DR Congo at Mpondwe border post in Kasese district on Wednesday.

Leveed Ahmed, 25, Hussein Mustapha, 30 and Ahmed Fehed, 25, are suspected to have murdered Gurbax Singh, 58, a proprietor of MK construction company and his son Baljit Singh, 28.

The two were beaten to death in their three-bed-roomed bungalow in Kalungu zone in Bunga, a Kampala suburb.

Kasese Police chief Christopher Kasalawo hailed the police officers for resisting a “huge bribe” from the wanted men.

“They tried to bribe the customs officials, but the Police moved in fast. They then tried to bribe the policemen in vain,” he said.

Kampala Extra crime chief Geoffrey Musana, who is heading the investigations, said the trio would be charged with murder and robbery.

“They took Gurbax’s Nissan Sahara pick-up truck which they later abandoned on the Kampala-Masaka highway. They then used public means to connect to Kasese after two nights in Mbarara,” said a source attached to the Internal Security Organisation.

Sources said the trio was detained at the Rapid Response Unit headquarters in Kireka, Kampala. “We did not want to take any chances, so we transferred them at weird hours,” said the source.

Meanwhile, the Police are holding a woman in connection with the same murder. The woman, detained at Kabalagala Police Station, was arrested from the house of the suspected killers a day after the murder.

Kabalagala Police chief Mustafa Ziribamuzale said: “She told us she was a girlfriend to one of them.”

The three Pakistanis, according to immigration records, arrived in Uganda in 2007.
