EDITOR—We wish to comment on Mr. Derrick Kabenge’s article entitled “Consumers are being cheated” published on April 5.

I would like to thank Derrick for his vigilance and we would like to advise other consumers to do likewise. Special attention should be put on products that have direct impact on human health.

Consumers should also try to avoid buying cheap items. For example, if you find something much cheaper than the other alternatives, you need to be very careful.

Two weeks back, the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) seized substandard as well as underweight Royco in Kajjansi. Over 50 cartons of Royco were confiscated.

UNBS has a consumer complaints desk where such issues are handled. we would also like to inform the public that UNBS has in place a market surveillance team to ensure consumers are protected from substandard and expired products.
