JANE Suuto ran a national record-breaking time of 2 hours 40 minutes and 31 seconds to win the Annency Marathon in France on Sunday.

Suuto (above), winner of the 2006 and 2008 MTN Kampala marathon was on form in the 30th edition of the Annency Marathon, putting up a one-woman show in the last 2km.

The time beat Margaret Nakintu’s national record of 2:48:18 set at the MTN Kampala marathon in 2005.

Though the time was under the Berlin World Championship qualifying standard of 2:43:00, it remains provisional as it has to first be verified by the international athletics governing body IAAF.

Nicholas Kiprono also improved on his national half marathon record by 32 seconds in Nice where he came second in 1 hour 00:25 seconds behind Titus Masai of Kenya.
