EDITOR—the Independent (UK) of October 17, caused an uproar when the celebrated 79-year-old American geneticist and Nobel prize winner, James watson, who with his team ‘discovered’ the structure of DNA claimed that testings proved that black people were not as clever as white ones, even though, western policies towards African countries were wrongly based on an assumption to the contrary.

Professor Steven Rose of the open university, London noted that people like Dr. Watson were out of their depth scientifically and this goes on to remind us what sort of attitudes still exist at even the highest professional levels. Ugandans must fight prejudices just like the rest of the world has to!
