EDITOR—Recently, it was reported that the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) had agreed to habituate another group of gorillas at Rushaga on the Kisoro side of the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

This was welcomed as good news to the lovers of tourism, especially in Kisoro district. Bwindi and Mgahinga national parks have half of the world’s gorilla population and therefore many groups that can be habituated. One wonders why such a decision took so long to be made so that more tourists are assured of bookings.

Even after the decision was made, the habituation process seems to be dragging. This is causing loss of revenue to both the locals and the whole nation. The earlier UWA habituates the gorillas the better.
