DEFENDING champions uganda telecom Kobs want a sixth Hima Makerere Rugby 10s title, but the kind of opposition they face this time might produce a new winner.
Hima Impis and MTN Heathens will want to have a say on who is king when it all ends tomorrow. But, of immediate concern for Kobs, is the Kenyan challenge.
They will have to contend with Strathmore University, Nondescripts and Buffaloes for a slot in the quarterfinals. Only two teams will advance to the last eight of the two-day competition.
“It’s a strong opposition that we don’t know so well but we will certainly scrape through the group,†Kobs coach Arthur Mugweri observed.
MVP Edmund Tumusiime and his captain Allan Musoke are among the stars that will shoulder Kobs’ hopes for silverware.
Hima Impis that dominated the tournament in the 1990s, have rediscovered their form since David Mutaka took over as coach.
“I have the fittest and youngest team. We have developed teamwork and the boys are getting the basics right,†Mutaka stated. Kenyan giants led by Nakuru, Strathmore and Nondescript will be out to become the first foreign team to win the tournament.
Pool A: Impis, Mean Machine, Boks, Rwanda; Pool B- Pirates, Nakuru, Impis II, Bruins; Pool C-Kobs, Strathmore, Buffaloes, Nondescript; Pool D-Heathens, Mwamba, Mongers, Rhinos
