SUSAN ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge faces the biggest test of her life when she hits the road first in the UMC Independence rally that gets underway this afternoon in Jinja. With Riyaz Kurji and Ronald Ssebuguzi opting out of the event, high riding Muwonge has a good chance of becoming the first woman to win a National Rally Championship (NRC) event in the history of Ugandan rallying.

Muwonge, (Subaru Impreza), who has had three podium finishes this season, screamed when she learnt that she would lead the way.

“No, no, no. I will die. That means a lot of pressure and tension. I am just a woman. I can’t lead the way, I will get problems,” a terrified Muwonge remarked to the author.

“This is too much. I have never thought about it and it has come all of sudden.”
Moments later, she welcomed the challenge. “Such an opportunity may come once in a lifetime. I have got to be brave and attack it head on. They will also be under pressure because they know that if I beat them they will be embarrassed. It’s my chance to win a big event.”

Leonard Bagarukayo, Patrick Oling, Mansur Sanya, Jamal Mustapha – all in Subaru, and Albert Katangi are expected to feature prominently in the two-day event that will cover Jinja, Mayuge and Kamuli districts.

“Susan is fast but she’s yet to get to my level. I am going to chase her like a rocket,” Bagarukayo warned.
The final round of the 2007 National Rally Championship will start with a super special stage at the Jinja show ground today at 2pm. the second leg will cover Mayuge and parts of Kamuli tomorrow.

The event has been sponsored by GTV to the tune of sh12m. Excel Construction company and Two Friends Restaurant are co-sponsors.
