THE parliamentary committee on public service has summoned the Minister of Public Service, Henry Kajura, over the mode of payment of the sh280b pension funds.

Last month, the Government published a list of 11,214 pensioners, whose arrears worth sh60b were sent to their bank accounts. Some of the beneficiaries have been waiting for the money for about 30 years.

Several pensioners complained that although their names were published in the newspapers, their bank accounts were not credited, committee chairperson George Wopuwa said yesterday.
Kajura is expected to meet the committee on Tuesday.

The MPs last week visited the districts of Bukedea, Namutumba, Manafwa, Mbale, Budaka and Bududa, where they held meetings with the people and leaders.

Wopuwa said the leaders wanted the lists to reflect the districts of the beneficiaries since sh17.5b of the sh280b is meant for local government pensioners.

The committee is also scrutinising the Public Service Commission Bill, 2007.
