CRANES’ CECAFA preparations have suffered a double setback.

Coach Laszlo Csaba’s outfit will have to negotiate the regional soccer championship in Tanzania without South Africa-based striker Geoffrey Massa. He also hopes that first choice left-back defender Abubaker Tabula recovers from a bout of malaria.

Massa, who had earlier been invited to spearhead the Cranes attack in Dar-es-Salaam, turned down the invite yesterday.

“I will not be able to join the team,” Massa disclosed. Massa (playing in picture above) has struggled to process his documents to formally join Jomo Cosmos, and could be unfit.

On a positive note though, Cranes forward Yuda Mugalu has finally regained consciousness after spending the previous four days on oxygen at Nsambya hospital.

The 22-year-old had gone into comma since last Sunday after undergoing an operation on an intestine leakage that had been brought about by a hole that had gradually increased with time.

“He has been removed from oxygen but the only problem is he can not recognise anybody,” a colleague stated yesterday.

* EUROPEAN nations will Saturday compete in the The Kids League (TKL) European Champions League Christmas Football tournament at International School of Uganda, Lubowa Estate.

The one day tournament has attracted adults representing 12 countries from the European community in Uganda. The TKL will be using the one day sporting event to raise funds for their programmes in Northern Uganda.

Defending champions Denmark will kick off their defence of the trophy against a tough encounter with Germany in Group A. France and Sweden make up the rest of Group A.
