The music festival organised by Alliance Française de Kampala to mark World Music Day last Saturday proved that many Ugandan artistes have a music talent. These artistes might not necessarily enjoy the limelight like their commercial counterparts, but they would give them a run for their money when it comes to musical performance.

Artistes such as Joel Sebunjjo, Maurice Kirya and Percussion Discussion’s Kagimu, exhibited exceptional skill in both vocal talent and knowledge of live musical instruments.

Sebunjo played the West African violin bow hap; Maurice thrilled fans with his guitar while Kagimu wowed the audience with the saxophone. The hundreds of music lovers gathered in the gardens of Alliance Française seemed to approve.

Headlining the festival was the Percussion Discussion Africa, which worked fans for over an hour. Also on the line-up was Kampala’s oldest hip-hop group, Klear Kut, Jeckaki Band, Iryn Namubiru, Susan Kerunen; Sarah Ndagire; Bisaso Sempeke; Break Dancers; Brazy Eddie and Jack Chikuru, who got standing ovations and thunderous applause.
