Wakiso district chairperson Ian Kyeyune has said he will not penalise the people who attacked him during a demonstration on Busabala Road on Monday.

Residents of Busabala threw dust at Kyeyune while protesting the delayed completion of the repairs on the dusty road, off Entebbe Road.

They also forced him to sit on the
dusty ground.

Kyeyune humbly gave in to the humiliation before addressing the residents after they had calmed down. But the Anti-Riot Police also intervened to stop the rioters from injuring Kyeyune.

“I have forgiven these people because they voted me for a service which they claim I have not fulfiled. These are just challenges that we face as leaders and I think it is normal,” Kyeyune told The New Vision on a phone yesterday.

Busabala and Namasuba-Ndejje roads are among the worst roads in Wakiso district.

Kyeyune, who narrowly escaped being lynched by angry residents, said the residents had reasons to get annoyed.

“I promised to improve the road, but failed because the district has no funds. Despite what they did to me, I have to keep my promise and make sure the road is upgraded.”

Kyeyune said the district would improvise a water truck to reduce the dust on the road, as the Government finalises plans to tarmac it.

He said he wrote to the President about the same issue and was waiting for his response.
