TWO students of St. Joseph’s School Nkoni in Masaka died yesterday when a their bus overturned in Kapchorwa at around 1:45pm.

The Police identified the deceased as Deo Wasswa in Senior Six and Vienne Rujaganya in Senior Four.

Seven students were critically injured. Three of them were yesterday evacuated from Kapchorwa to Mbale Hospital for emergency treatment. Thirty-one students were by last evening still being treated at Kapchorwa Hospital.

The Kapchorwa district Police commander, Andrew Namonyo, said the driver lost control in a sharp corner up a steep hill and the bus plunged into a valley at Towen in Sipi sub-county.

“Many students sustained serious injuries and fractures. We got several cars to rush them to Kapchorwa hospital,” Namonyo said.

The students were travelling to Sipi Falls during a study tour of physical features in the eastern region.

Paul Mufutwa, a catechist at St. Austin Catholic Church, said the bus had 77 people including six teachers, 69 students and two Catholic priests from Masaka Diocese identified as Paul Batwawula and Herman Kisekka.
