NKUMBA University volleyball club was in unstoppable form as they won both the men and women trophies at the inaugural Ndejje University Open on Sunday.

Jensen Chesitit, Johnson Kawenyera, spiker and setter Tony Lakony were outstanding in the two-day championship at Ndejje and dwarfed Sport-S 3-1 in the men’s final on Sunday.

It was the second time after the KIU Open that Nkumba overran Sport-S by the same margin in a final.

Nkumba eliminated hosts Ndejje 2-0 in the semi-final while Sport-S defeated KCC at the same stage.

In the women’s final Prossy Alobo, Viola Akisa and Viviane Akech drove Nkumba to their fifth trophy this season after defeating hosts Ndejje in straight sets in the finals.

“It is nice beating a strong side. We took the game to them, and that is how we managed to beat them,” said Nkumba skipper Chesitit after their triumph over Sport-S.

Nkumba dumped league champions KCC in straight sets while Ndejje ejected struggling Nemostars by the same margin in the semi finals.

The two-day sh5m event sponsored by the dfcu Bank, attracted 35 teams, including eight institutions, eight clubs and 14 schools.

Brethren College Kiryagonja SSS lifted the schools title for boys, while Seroma SSS took the girls contest.
