THE army has arrested four men over robberies in Teso. The 3rd Division spokesperson, Capt. Henry Obbo, said on Sunday that the suspects were in detention as investigations go on.

He identified the suspects as Oman Ayupu and Peter Ekodeu of Serere in Soroti district. The two were arrested after complaints that they were engaged in ambushing people. “After their arrest, the army and the Police searched their homes and recovered 10 bullets,” Obbo said.

Obbo said they will be charged with armed robbery and unlawful possession of ammunition. He said the other two suspects, whose names he would not reveal as investigations were ongoing, are suspected to have shot Iron Epenyu of Wera in Amuria district.

“Epenyu was shot in the stomach at his home on Saturday and was admitted to Soroti Hospital,” Obbo said. He said the two cases were the reason ‘Operation Restore Hope’ was launched in Teso.

In the last one year, the army has recovered 143 guns and over 3,200 bullets from the sub-region.
