THE district chairperson, Francis Lukooya Mukoome has attributed the high HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in the area on defilement. He said the HIV prevalence rate in the district was 9.6% yet the national prevalence rate was 6.4%.

Mukoome blamed the increase in defilement cases on parents who settle such matters outside court.

He made the remarks on Wednesday while officiating at the closure of a one-day symposium on domestic violence and child abuse organised by the African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) at the district headquarters. The ANPPCAN chief, Deogratius Yiga, said they would partner with the district leaders to fight immorality.
