The construction of the district headquarters at Ishozi has resumed.
The project had been halted by the Inspector General of Government, Faith Mwondha, over allegations that the land, where the construction was taking place, was purchased illegally.
The contractor, Eng. Pascal Gakyaro, told The New Vision during the ground-breaking ceremony recently that the sh996m complex shall be completed in six months.
Gakyaro said early next month, President Yoweri Museveni would visit the site and lay the foundation stone.
He said over 200 residents of the district would benefit. They would get jobs and those with building materials like cement, bricks, stones and sand would get market for their goods. “We shall employ people from outside Isingiro and recruit over 200 Isingiro residents because we want them to benefit from their new district,†Gakyaro said.
The district LC5 chairman, Ignatius Byaruhanga, said the district leaders were delighted that the construction process has resumed.
“It has been a long time fighting for this place. Thank God, we are breaking the ground, we are very excited,†Byaruhanga said. He warned the contractors against doing shoddy work, saying the block is also supposed to be used by future leaders.
