Editor—I have read the list of the best performing students and schools in the just released results of both the O’ and A’ level examinations for 2007. I am sad that there was none from Busoga College Mwiri!

For the last few years the performance of Mwiri has declined drastically and the school is never listed among the best. In the past that was quite unusual. Before the transfer of the headmaster, George William Semivule to Kings College Budo, Mwiri was performing very well. In fact it sent over 50 students to Makerere University on various courses in the academic year 2000/2001 on Government sponsorship. Schools like Budo, Kisubi, Namagunga, Gayaza and Namilyango have maintained their standards and continue to send many students to university. There are also some upcoming schools like St. Mary’s Kitende but it is sad that Mwiri seems to be declining every year! I appeal to the administration, staff, Old boys, parents and students of Mwiri to join hands to ensure Mwiri regains its former glory.
