Vocational education fights poverty

EDITOR—Vocational education is the best education though it has been undermined in Uganda. Technical and vocational skills can save us from unemployment. The advantage with such education is that the skills learnt cannot be forgotten because they are practised continuously.

Skills like tailoring, carpentry and joinery and brick laying have helped many people fight poverty.

I wish to thank the Uganda Association of Private Vocational Institutions (UGAPRIVI) and the African Development bank for helping in the training of technical teachers at Kal Institute of Technical Teacher Education which is affiliated to Kyambogo university.

I request UGAPRIVI to pick instructors from different regions in uganda so that at least each region will benefit from the skills of technical teachers. Technical education directly and quickly improves people’s lives.
