GEO-INFORMATION Communication (GIC), an environmental system research institute and software reseller, last week conducted a week-long training on application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

The software is used for geographical mapping and information. Six World Wildlife Fund staff received certificates of attendance at a function in Ntinda, near Kampala.

Amadra ori-Okido, the GIC managing director, said the training was aimed at applying specific techniques in GIS across a range of environments in national and international research.

“We want to emphasise the importance of GIS technology to ensure that new advances are passed on,” he said.

“Continuous training is to ensure practical experiences as GIS are very difficult to master. The training will offer skills and value to the staff.”

David Duli, the WWF projects coordination office, said the course was very useful.

“There is need to pass the skills obtained to other people. “It will be unfortunate if you kept the skills without passing it your colleagues. Apply and extend the skills to other for us to benefit,” he argued.
