LEADING local artistes have been lined up to welcome the Premiership trophy on its maiden visit to Uganda on May 30, courtesy of Barclays Bank.

The global bank is the sponsor of the English Premiership tournament.
“Having witnessed the passion with which people here follow Premiership events, Barclays Bank thought it appropriate to reward our customers and Ugandans in general by bringing the trophy to Uganda and creating the right environment for the people to identify with this sports icon,” says Gunilla Ouko, Barclays Bank’s head of marketing.

The musicians have been chosen in accordance with the Premiership clubs they support: Bebe Cool for Arsenal; Mesach Ssemakula for Manchester United; the title winners, Obsessions will turn out for Liverpool, while Peter Miles will represent Chelsea.

Other functions to celebrate the trophy’s visit to Uganda include a cocktail at Serena Hotel on May 30; a visit to Edgar Watson’s soccer academy, before going to Nakivubo Stadium for the trophy’s final stop-over on June 1, where the artistes are expected to perform at their best.

The trophy was scheduled to come to Uganda in December last year, but the plans were put off following the outbreak of Ebola in western Uganda.
The trophy will continue on its tour of Africa on June 2.
