UGANDAN Premiership fans welcomed the Barclays Premiership Trophy yesterday. It is the first time the Trophy comes to Uganda.

The trophy is one of the most sought for football icons, with the popularity of the premiership rising across the world.

Barclays bank officials Charity Jinya, Richard Byarugaba and Gunilla Ouka received the trophy amid excitement from the over 200 fans at Entebbe Airport.

Dressed in replica T-shirts of their Premiership clubs, the fans waved, while others escorted the glittering trophy, making brief stops at different trading centres. Former World Cup defender Marcel Desailly was expected yesterday afternoon. “Ekyo Kyaffe!” (“That is ours”) a Manchester United supporter shouted hoarse, as the convoy drove through Entebbe Road heading towards Serena Hotel.

It will move to Aga Khan High School today, where Desailly is expected tol address the Edgar’s Academy, before he travels to Namboole to watch the match of Uganda against Niger.

On Sunday, the trophy will be at Nakivubo Satadium where fans will take photos with it.
