LOCAL singer Joseph Mayanja, commonly known as Jose Chameleone, was yesterday evicted from Kamu-Kamu Plaza on Entebbe Road over rent arrears.

A female administrator at the commercial building said the rent had accumulated to sh2m in five months.

Chameleone was letting the single-room on the second floor at sh400,000 per month, the woman, who preferred anonymity revealed.

The room on the five-storey building was serving as the office for Chameleone’s firm – the Leone Island Crew.

“It was Chameleone’s father who contacted us to rent his son this room on October 15, 2007.

Initially, he was paying well but started defaulting in February,” the administrator added.

In June, Kampala City Council tax collectors locked up the office over non-payment of operational license.

However, Chameleone, told The New Vision that the administrators were jealous of him.

“I disagreed with them when they abruptly put a charge of sh50,000 for billboards (advertising) per month besides rent.”
