A total of 250 students of Kabira Technical Institute walked over 40 kilometres from the school to the district headquarters in a peaceful demonstration protesting what they called poor leadership. They accused the principal, Joram Nyakayumbu, of expelling lecturers, employing unqualified ones and embezzlement. “Instead of going on strike that may lead to loss of property, we came to the district to present our grievances,” said Collins Nkwasibwe, the students’ leader.

MPs boycott conference
-Kabale
MPs boycotted the NRM party conference that had been called by the district NRM chief to elect a vice-chairperson and executive committee member. Hope Mwesigye last week called the meeting that had been postponed several times, to fill the vacant posts following the deaths of Mathew Bitamba and Emmanuel Rutakyengerwa. Ndorwa East MP Wilfred Niwagaba claimed that Mwesigye had not involved them in organising the polls.
