DFCU Bank plans to expand into regional markets as part of the five-year strategic plan, Juma Kisaame, the managing director, has said.

“We have the ability to service our customers on a regional basis. However, our immediate priority in 2008 is to consolidate our operations and expand our footprints in Uganda,” Kisaame said at the launch of the bank’s branch in Mbale.

The branch, which is at the former Mbale Leasing Centre, brings the number of outlets opened this year to five. Three more branches are due to be opened by December, bringing the total number of dfcu branches across the country to 20.

The bank also donated a sh91m bus to Mbale North Road Primary School.

Trade state minister, Eng. Nelson Gagawala Wambuzi, urged the people of Mbale to invest their savings in order to create jobs, adding that plans were underway for establishment of a fruit drying factory in Mbale.

He urged banks to work with farmers to achieve development goals.
