ALLAN Musoke and Amin Otim muscled their way to score second half tries as Kobs recovered from 7-0 down, to trump rivals Heathens in the final of the Jinja Rugby 7s yesterday.

Defending champions MTN Heathens, who still lead the 2008 uganda telecom 7s circuit, seemed on course for a routine win when they stormed into a 7-0 halftime lead.

But the uganda telecom Kobs’ Musoke, coming off an injury layoff, made a try which was converted by the eventual tournament MVP Ronnie Lutakome to level the score at 7-7.

Otim then made the tournament winning try, throwing the race for the 7s circuit wide open. Heathens remain top with 36 points but just four ahead of Kobs with the Kyadondo 7s this weekend and the Kitaka Memorial next week yet to be played.

Kobs coach Fred Mudoola hailed the team’s display.

“The boys did what Kobs does best. They went out there to enjoy the game. We won’t allow the narrow margin to put us under unnecessary pressure. After all, we have already won the league and Uganda Cup titles. The pressure will be on those that haven’t won any silverware this season,” Mudoola boasted.

In the semi-finals, Kobs edged G4S Pirates 5-0 while Heathens overcame an early scare from Hima Impis to win 21-14.

The circuit is sponsored by uganda telecom with Vision Group as one of the co-sponsors.
