LUWEERO National Resistance Movement chairman, Hajji Abdul Nadduli, has said his recent arrest was a ploy to deter him from politics.

Nadduli, the former Luweero district chairman, said on Tuesday his political opponents wanted him to miss the 2011 nominations for the Luweero LC5 seat by keeping him in prison.

He spent two days in Luzira prison for failing to pay court costs that resulted from the dismissal of his petition against the Luweero district chairman.

Nadduli was speaking after Idd prayers at Kikyusa mosque in Bamunanika county.

The Luweero Movement fraternity is split into two factions.

One group is led by Nadduli, and the other by state minister for youth James Kinobe.

During the LC5 elections, Kinobe supported Nadduli’s rival Ronald Ndawula who was unopposed, following Nadduli's exclusion from the race.

Nadduli on the other hand, supported Abraham Byandaala, who stood against Kinobe in the Katikamu North Parliamentary elections. Kinobe lost.
arrest made him popular.

"They had planned to embarrass me and tarnish my image, but instead, my arrest was a blessing in disguise because now everybody is singing my name and blaming my opponents," Nadduli said.

Commenting on the proposed Mengo municipality, Nadduli advised the Mengo to accommodate all views.

He said the municipality should be given a district that will house the Buganda kingdom.
