THE bizarre act of sacrificing children by traditional healers is back. Two children were sacrificed in Masaka district last week, while two others narrowly survived being sacrificed in Mukono and Nakasongola. As community leaders, you have got a duty to stop these human sacrifices. How you can do it:
- Identify all traditional healers in your village, visit them and establish what they do.
- Demand to see their registration certificates. All traditional healers are registered and given certificates by their umbrella body the Uganda Traditional Healers Association, or Uganda N’edagala Lyayo. Experience has shown that all human sacrifices are carried out by unregistered healers.
- If one does not have a registration certificate, stop them from operating, through a resolution passed by the villagers in a village sitting.
- If they defy your directive, inform the Police for action.
But overall, keep a close eye on all traditional healers in your village.
