A good person

When I saw her walking towards me, I was almost certain that she was my date. She sat at my table while smiling. I introduced myself as a New Vision guest and she said she was also one.

My order of roast chicken was brought. She quickly offered to spice it up by adding tomato and chilli sauce.

She asked whether I was seeing someone and I told her I was. She remained silent for a while and told me how she has given up on men, having separated from her boyfriend about a month before.

I advised her to get somebody for company since she wasn’t a young girl. “I’ll think about it after three months,” she said.

After the date, we parted company and later, I called to know whether she had reached safely. She promised to call me the next morning.

Has she called you, as she promised?
She hasn’t and I won’t call again until she shows responsibility by fulfilling her promise.

Did she impress you in any way?
Well, she was inconsistent in many things. She told me two different ages and when I told her I had a weekend programme with my girlfriend, she said she too had one with her boyfriend.

What else would you say about her?
I thank her for honouring the appointment and giving me company.

I found the guy anxiously waiting for me. As soon as I arrived, he was very happy and received me with smiles. We introduced ourselves and in the process, I got to know he has a girlfriend. I told him I was single after I separated from my boyfriend. He said he had picked interest in me and wanted us to be lovers. He asked to pay me a visit, which I accepted. He has called me three times since then and every time, he addresses me as “mukwano”. He says we should remain friends. We left Choma Restaurant at around 11:00pm and went together till Nakulabye, where we separated.

Will you give him a place in your heart?
He is still a student. I want independent and mature men. As a student, he can’t sustain a woman like me.

But that doesn’t rule out the fact that he has something you liked.
He is dark-skinned and of American height. For the short time we were together, he showed me real love; he was straight forward and was honest about his relationship.

What if he surprises you with an invitation for an outing?
I know students are always broke and I don’t think he’s much different.
