Juliana Kanyomozi was one of several artistes frustrated in Nairobi, Kenya after the annual Kisima music awards were postponed. Kisima Holdings, the organisers rescheduled the awards to March next year after main sponsors, Zain, pulled out.

The Kisima Awards, Kenya’s equivalent of the Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) awards, seek to reward music talent in Kenya but, like the PAM Awards, recognise talent from Uganda and Tanzania.

The awards now set to have been in their eighth year since inception have, in the past, been dogged by lack of sponsorship.

A Saturday Nation story said a Norway-based Kenyan artiste STL, who flew in for the awards was among many artistes counting their losses.

STL was scheduled to perform at the awards event at the Windsor Golf and Country Club as was Namibia’s Kalahari and Uganda’s Kanyomozi.

Another artiste, Wiwy, a nominee who was scheduled to perform was quoted as saying: “It is a shame, I was looking forward to it and spent a lot in clothes and assortment of other requirements for my grand entrance.”

Kanyomozi was nominated for East Africa’s Best Female Artiste while rapper Navio aka Danny Kigozi of Klear Kut was nominated for Best Male Artiste. Both Kanyomozi and Navio had three nods.

Other Ugandans nominated were Michael Ross, Dr. Propa, Goodlyfe featuring Omulangira Suuna, Kid Fox and Kigambo Araali.
