Court blocks Kamuli speaker censure

THE High Court has directed Kamuli district council to stop any disciplinary action against the speaker.

THE High Court has directed Kamuli district council to stop any disciplinary action against the speaker, Tomas Ndimukika Kategere, reports Tom Gwebayanga.

An injunction addressed to the LC5 chairman on November 21 said: “We are aware that the councillors petitioned seeking to remove the speaker over alleged abuse of office, but no more steps should be taken against him until February 13, when the matter will be legally administered.”

It was signed by the Jinja Court Registrar, P Okello.

A total of 23 out of the 32 councillors signed the petition to censure Kategere, accusing him of insubordination.

They said he attacked the LC5 chairman, Stephen Mubiru and the CAO, Charles Okello, on radio talk-shows.
Mubiru confirmed having got the letter, but declined to comment.

Kategere said the petition was part of a plot to block him from contesting for Bugabula South parliamentary seat. He is represented by Muziransa and Company Advocates.
