The Police are investigating the operations of an NGO, the Uganda Voters Network. This follows allegations that the NGO has been extorting money from residents promising them loans and jobs.
Over 500 people claim they each paid sh27,000 as membership fee, sh10,000 for a training manual and sh5,000 for an identity card.
They claim each of them paid between sh50,000 and sh100,000 for jobs. The group’s national chief trainer, Chris Ahabwe, was quizzed by the Police on Tuesday. The resident district commissioner, Geoffrey Kyomukama, said his office was investigating the matter.
