FOR the fourth time in a row, Alistair Bush won the Uganda Laser Open at Murchison Bay over the weekend.

In a seventh race photo finish, Tanzania’s Bush made a stunning come-back to go past race leader Gordon Bell at the final buoy and claim his fourth Laser Open title.
Bush finished with five victories in seven races while Bell, who won two races, settled for second place and Reint Bakema third in the overall sails.

“It has been a learning experience for me especially with the challenges that I had to contend with from several sailors,” Bush commented.

In the women’s category, Sarah Searle gave a faultless exhibition to easily take out four of the seven races and claim the ladies title.

Searle accumulated 22 points overall ahead of second-placed Corrie Bell and by virtue of four wins from the seven races sailed, returned to the winners circle.

The cadet class saw Lars Garvey win his third consecutive title with Camilla Betts and Josephine Smit finishing second and third respectively.

Garvey not only accumulated the lowest cadet class points, but also finished fifth in the overall races to claim a third Laser Open title.
The event that attracted a fleet of 43 boats was organised by Victoria Nyanza Sailing Club and sponsored by SN Brussels Airlines.
