Masese Fish Packers suppliers allegedly demand over sh2b in arrears.

The suppliers, who gathered at the factory last Tuesday, brought activities to a halt as they asked management to clear the arrears.

The over 50 suppliers refused employees to do any work, threatening to pounce on whoever defied their instructions.

“We have been regularly supplying fresh fish on credit for the last four months,” John Katerega Kasajja, the chairman of the suppliers, said.

They said they have been supplying a tonne of fish at sh2.6m.
“Non among the suppliers here is demanding less than sh20m,” said Kasajja.

Efforts to get a comment from the managing director of the firm, Riyaz Kurgi, were futile as his mobile phone was switched off.

Kasajja said every time they demanded their money, management would convince them to continue supplying, saying arrangements of paying them were in the offing.

“We were informed that payment would be effected today (Tuesday, March 13), but to our dismay, the authorities have vanished, unnoticeably,” he said.

The suppliers said they were under pressure from the fishermen.
“The fishermen have started issuing us with death threats,” a supplier, Mohammed Ssekyema, said.
