CLUBS went crazy when she released Fasi last year. And as the song gradually drops off the charts, Bella is once again building buzz with another potential club hit, Dodo.
This is the first single off her forthcoming second album. Dodo is the kind of song that will make even those who hate dancehall music tap their feet.
“Because I am a dancer, I really love to see people dancing. So I always make sure that whatever I write can get my fans onto the dance floor,†Bella, who is also a gifted songwriter, says.
Yet her forte is her ability to come up with awfully catchy hooks that easily get lodged in the brain. But how does she come up with such catchy hooks? “I think it is a talent. It just comes naturally,†she says.
And Dodo will most certainly keep her musical flag flying. Clubgoers are already familiar with the song, while FM radios have equally shown love for it. In the song, Bella describes her music, herself and her fans who dance to her songs as ‘real’.
However, the painful truth is that there is absolutely nothing to write home about the lyrics of this song. But the melody and the production are ‘real’.
A former member of the Shadow’s Angels, Bella announced her arrival onto the local music scene with Annekute, a duet with Yvette Seguya, about three years ago.
However, Bella changed her style from Afro-beat to dancehall, a style that has made her a household name. Last year, she launched one of the biggest local club hits in Fasi.
And now she seems unstoppable with Dodo. She may not be the dance hall Queen that she prefers to be known as, but she might be there very soon.
