ANOTHER recruitment exercise in the Police starts next Monday following the failure to reach the target number.

“The Inspector General of Police wishes to inform the public that another recruitment exercise for constables into the Uganda Police Force is due to take place throughout Uganda on 16 April,” Police spokesman Asan Kasigye stated over the weekend.

The recruitment will end on Saturday.
Only Senior Six leavers with a credit in English and a pass in Mathematics can apply.

“They should be 18 to 25 years of age and should be ready for a medical examination, written and oral interviews and a nine-months training course,” he added.

In the previous exercise, only 1,300 constables were recruited, yet 3,000 constables are needed.

They were set to start a training course in Masindi but it was halted. Kasingye said a new date would be announced after next week’s recruitment.

Deputy Police spokesman Judith Nabakooba said they would embark on a sensitisation campaign this week to ensure that people turn up in big numbers.

She urged women to join the force, assuring that they are needed in various departments. Nabakooba attributed the failure to hit the target to the fact that many applicants were illegible.
