MINISTER without portfolio Dorothy Samali Hyuha has appealed to local leaders to provide land for foreign investors. She said it was pointless for them to insist on wooing investors to their areas yet they are are not willing to part with their land.

“Some of you talk of foreign investors, yet you are unwilling to provide them with land. Do you expect them to invest in space?” Hyuha asked.

She was officiating at the International Labour Day celebrations in Mbale district on Tuesday where the local leaders urged the Government to encourage foreign investors not to concentrate their businesses in Kampala.

Hyuha noted that the Government had played a big role in wooing investors into the country. She however observed that bureaucracy in acquiring land for investment upcountry was often propelled by the tribal attachments to land.

Hyuha explained that investment by the Chinese at Doho Irrigation Scheme in Butaleja district had helped improve the living conditions of the people in the district. She noted that it employed over 4,000 people.

She added that her first family car was bought with proceeds from rice growing.
