Amucu wins EA athletics silver medal

EVELYN Amucu won a 200m silver medal on day one of the East African Youth Athletics Championships in Arusha, Tanzania on Saturday.

EVELYN Amucu won a 200m silver medal on day one of the East African Youth Athletics Championships in Arusha, Tanzania on Saturday.

Her victory put Uganda in second place with four races to go. Uganda has one silver and four bronze medals in the five-nation competition that ended last night.

The upcoming middle distance star from Gombe came second in the 200m event before finishing fourth in the 400m event.
Ramadhan Akulla won a bronze medal in the boys 200m, while Juliet Chekwil (1500m), Doreen Chesang (3000m) and Gertrude Nalukwago (800m) won bronze medals in the girls category.

The team was sponsored by Scandinavian Express Service and the Uganda Olympic Committee.

Meanwhile, Stephen Odwar continued with his good run on Kenyan soil, clocking season bests of 21.2 seconds and 10.4 seconds to win both the 100m and 200m in the Athletics Kenya weekend trial in Eldoret on Saturday.
Samuel Egadu clocked 48.4 and 22.0 to finish fourth and sixth in the 400m and 200m respectively.

The duo will combine with Agnes Aneno and Mary Echodu as Tororo Fame Club attempts to dominate Saturday’s World Athletics Day meet at Lubowa.
